What is Bikram Yoga? Bikram Yoga consists of a sequence of 24 Hatha Yoga exercises (asanas) and 2 breathing exercises (pranayama). These 26 exercises were selected and put together from among thousands of asanas by the Indian yoga champion Bikram Choudhury. They proceed in sequence and each exercise is performed twice. Each posture prepares the body for the next.This athletic and challenging yoga is especially well-suited to Western people and improves physical strength, flexibility and balance while simultaneously training mental clarity and focus. A healthy, trained body connects with spirituality. What's special and unique about Bikram Yoga is that the postures can be performed at any level of fitness and are thus beneficial for everyone. The more you put into it - the more you'll get out! Bikram Yoga is about genuine physical and mental grounding and releasing the energy thus generated. How fast you advance depends solely on you - less on your particular physical condition than on time and the attention you pay to your yoga practice. Yoga is not something you do, but something you try! Thus, no comparison is permissible except that with yourself, with your own beginnings. It's less about performing the postures perfectly than it is about your inner attitude. "Perfect" means to try your best today! |
